The Luckiest Duck

The luckiest duck in the pond was just happy to be there.
After being born with a weird wing
it would've been easy to toss him out after hatching
but that didn't happen.

Instead he was taken into the flock.
Held safely in the middle by his family
protected and guided till he could fly on his own.

The luckiest duck in the pond
doesn't get the most seed thrown his way.
But he’s just happy someone’s throwing it at all.

Instead of having to worry about starving
in the endless New Jersey winters
there’s always just enough for him and everyone he loves.

More than anything though,
The luckiest duck in the pond is just happy you came by.
You could be at any park, anywhere else other than here.

But here you are, and here he is, honking with glee
just because there may be someone out there just as lucky as him.
