Astronauts & Explorers
When we were little
They told us we could be astronauts and explorers
Build spaceships and see the stars
Sometimes you need adventures
And back alley lobotomies
To turn you off, or on
Depending on your mood
As if the world isn't messed up enough
We create dystopia from rocks and old casinos
Travel down barren highways towards cataclysm
There has to be something more ,
Than huffing spray paint in an abandoned movie theater
Until the screen turns back on.
Or maybe there really isn't anything else here
Maybe the explorers have found all the new places
The capitalists built all over them
And then everyone shut them all down
Left condemned corpses where trees used to breathe
And we have nothing left to become
But generational morticians
Figuring out what the good times were
And who killed them.
When we were little
They said we could be anything, astronauts and explorers.
But someone bought up all the spaceships
And there was nothing new left to see
